Ride2Work

The Ride to Work program is a result of a partnership between the DECC and Bicycle NSW as a key initiative of the NSW Environmental Trust – Clean Air, Healthy Communities “On Your Bike” program.

The Ride2Work program is a behaviour change program targeted at increasing the number of people choosing to get on their bikes and ride to and from work. Ride2Work engages with workplaces to break down the barriers to more people cycling to and from work moreoften. Anyone within your organisation can be a part of the Ride2Work program, regardless of whether the promotion of active travel is on your agenda.

The modern day society that we live in requires us to be responsive and alert to the issues around us – two of which include climate change and health. Cycling has a positive impact upon these issues affecting us as individuals, community members, road users and employees. The Ride2Work program guides workplaces through change in developing and expanding their cycling culture and equips employees with the ability to safely ride to work and reap its benefits.
To get involved in the Ride2Work program call 9218 5452 or e mail russellj@bicyclensw.org.au

The Bicycle NSW Ride2Work program is encouraging workplaces to keep a track on the number of employees choosing to get on their bikes and ride all or part of their journey to work. Research shows that regular monitoring increases likelihood and motivation to change and adopt a new behaviour – in this case riding to work! We are asking workplaces once a month to get online and complete a simple Ride2Work survey – anyone within the organisation can do this.
What are the benefits of completing the survey?
  • Creates a buzz about cycling to work and acts as motivation and encouragement for new riders.
  • Creates a friendly competition between departments and organisations.
  • Highlights your organisations commitment to the promotion of healthy, sustainable behaviours leading to a healthy and more productive workforce.
  • Allows organisations to track progress of programs and initiatives to promote cycling.
How do I take part? It’s simple!
  • Select any day of the week during the month
  • On the morning of this day send out the e mail (cut and paste from below) to all your employees.
  • The e mail will ask those who rode to work to hit reply by the close of business on that day.
  • Simply count the number of replies and complete the Ride2Work survey which can be accessed by clicking here
  • Results will then be posted on the Ride2Work league table on the Bicycle NSW Ride2Work website.
  • The following month do the same process again. Preferably carry out the survey on the same week each month, for example if you carry out the survey in week 3 of August conduct September’s survey sometime in week 3.
Cut and paste the below for the e mail:
Dear Colleague,
We are taking part in the Bicycle NSW Ride2Work survey and are asking those of you who rode to work today (this includes all or part of journey from door to door) to hit reply to this e mail. Please reply by close of business today.
We will let you know the results shortly.
Visit www.bicyclensw.org.au/Ride2Work.asp for all you need to know about riding to work.
Kind Regards
The Hon. Peter Garrett AM MP, Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts launches and put his support behind National Ride to Work Day on Saturday 25th July in Melbourne.
