Safe Cycling Workshops

Over the past six months Bicycle NSW, with support from the Roads and Maritime Services, have been holding free, community-based safe cycling workshops to Western and South Western Sydney residents.

New CEO for BNSW – Creating a Better Environment for Cycling

The Board of Bicycle New South Wales is pleased to announce the appointment of Alex Unwin as the new Chief Executive Officer of BNSW, the peak bicycling organisation in New South Wales.

Alex has unrivalled experience and understanding of the sector and his knowledge of BNSW is second to none, having previously served as CEO from 2005 to 2010. Alex will commence his term as CEO from February allowing BNSW to seamlessly move forward.

The Bourke Road separated cycleway, from Wyndam Street to Gardeners Road, Alexandria, opened in March 2010, after community consultation.

The City of Sydney is committed to creating a safe and connected cycling network in the city, to provide more transport options, free up seats on public transport, and reduce congestion for those who need to drive.

Plans to upgrade shared path on Hannell Street at Wickham, Newcastle

Cyclists and pedestrian safety on Hannell Street at Wickham will be improved as Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) move forward with plans to upgrade the existing shared path crossing.

"RMS is providing $275,000 to upgrade the existing crossing near Throsby Creek," Member for Newcastle, Tim Owen AM MP said.

"This project will improve safety at this busy location and encourage more people to safely use the shared path.

Kent Street separated cycleway proposed extension from Druitt to Liverpool Streets

In October 2010 the City of Sydney consulted on a proposed extension of the Kent Street separated cycleway from Druitt to Liverpool Streets.

They are working to balance the needs of all road users, and have now developed two designs to extend the cycleway. Safety is paramount during the design process.
