Definition of a Bicycle User Group (BUG)

A BUG is a group of people that advocate for and support cycling. Groups can operate in various ways to advocate the use of bicycles, including but not limited to;

  • Working with and lobbying local councils for cycling infrastructure
  • Working with and lobbying the Roads and Maritime Services and other government departments for cycling infrastructure
  • Facilitating bike rides and encouraging others to participate in rides
  • Holding cycle training workshops and seminars, including cycle maintenance and safety
  • Participating in the review of cycling policies and standards
  • Holding events to publicise the health, environmental and social benefits of cycling
  • Promoting education of cyclists and other road users in the interest of road safety to conserve and protect the natural environment through the promotion of cycling as an environmentally beneficial means of transport

Bicycle NSW and BUGs

BUGs play a vital role in supporting Bicycle NSW, specifically at a local level, by increasing awareness of Bicycle NSW and its activities, helping build Bicycle NSW Membership and advocating for cycling at a local level.
