Bicycle Valet Parking Volunteers Needed!

BIKESydney is in need of volunteers for some upcoming events. Helping out with bicycle valet parking is an easy way to volunteer and help make
Sydney a better place for everyone to ride. Valet shifts are usually two to
three hours long and we give you a quick training session when you start.
It's basically a process of getting people's names and contact numbers,
parking a bike and then locating it again. It's a fun and friendly
experience.

There are lots of events in November (Newtown Festival, Bicycle Film Festivals) so we really need your help.

For more details and the event dates please contact Gilbert gilbert.grace@bigpond.com or 9560 0739

Traffic Calming Measures - Pyrmont Bridge

In recent years Pyrmont Bridge has seen a substantial increase in both pedestrian and bicycle traffic, with around 15,000 people now crossing the bridge on an average day. In response to this growth the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority is implementing new traffic calming measures in the shared zone Bridge to ensure a safe environment for pedestrians and riders alike. The traffic calming will include coordinated signage denoting the shared zone together with the 10 kph speed limit and new raised-profile road markings to provide a visual indicator to reduce speed. These measures are scheduled to be implemented by the 18th November and there will be additional ranger patrols in the week of implementation.

JPMorgan Corporate Challenge Run - Centennial Park 11th November

This event will commence bump in on Sunday 8 November with construction of the race 'village' on Parade Grounds.  Bump out is planned to conclude by COB Friday 13 November.  During this time there will be increased traffic and large vehicle movements in Centennial Park.

In addition there will be road and gate closures and traffic impacts on event day Wednesday 11 November with the closure of ALL Centennial Park vehicle gates at 12.00pm.  Cyclists may however enter the Park until 4pm and must be clear of the Park by 5pm.

Riders - particularly those that train in groups - should exercise due care and patience during this period whilst there are increased truck and vehicle movements in the Park and to abide by the instruction of Ranger Security Officers.

Office Fling
Join some of Australia's most recognisable organisations by participating in the Planet Ark's Friday File Fling which is a fun, easy to organise staff engagement event running on Friday 13 November (the last working day of National Recycling Week)

Office paper has a relatively low recycling rate because so much of it gets stored in files that will never be read again.  The Fling is designed to get this good quality paper out of the filing cabinet and back into circulation either as Notebooks or recycling.

All you need to do is set some time aside and encourage staff and colleagues to participate. Planet Ark has developed a range of resources to help you host an event including an online registration form, a 'Step-By-Step Guide' to hosting an event and promotional resources.

They are all available from
