Bikeability Toolkit

The Bikeability Toolkit is a useful resource which can help community groups such as BUGs campaign for better bicycle facilities in their area.
The Bikeability Toolkit is a set of easy to use checklists and resource pack designed to help local communities to plan and build bicycle friendly streets, towns and neighbourhoods. The Toolkit can be used by local government officers and councillors, transport professionals and community organisations such as bicycle user groups.
Using the Bikeability Toolkit can help your community to:

  • Better understand and provide for the needs of bicycle riders
  • Improve access to technical guidelines and resources
  • Help you better understand 'good' and 'bad' infrastructure
  • Help determine priorities for capital works & maintenance works programs
  • Develop bike plans and policies to improve cycling infrastructure
  • Ensure better integration of facilities to save costs
  • Develop a better environment for cycling to increase cycling
  • Develop active transport options for all the community to improve health & fitness and to meet sustainability targets.

The toolkit can be downloaded from the Australian Greenhouse Office web site - Bikeability.
