Bicycle NSW and BUGs

Created Friday 20th March 2009

Bicycle NSW and BUGs work closely together.
As the core of any BUG is a group of Bicycle NSW members (see Structure of a BUG), Bicycle NSW do not charge BUGs any fees.

BUGs once registered with Bicycle NSW (see Starting A BUG and Structure of a BUG) are considered to be affiliated with Bicycle NSW. By affiliated BUGs are related with Bicycle NSW but not controlled by Bicycle NSW. As the BUG itself is not a member of Bicycle NSW it does not have voting rights, but the members of a BUG who are members of Bicycle NSW are entitled to all privileges and rights of Bicycle NSW members. BUGS have similar aims as setout within the Bicycle NSW mission statement "To promote, advocate, and support cycling in all its forms as an environmentally sustainable and healthy form of transport, recreation and tourism through the engagement of government, industry and the community at all levels."

BUGs by running rides, lobbying local councils for better cycling facilities and infrastructure, running stalls in their local community festivals etc, bring people to cycling, some of these people go on to become members of Bicycle NSW increasing the member base for Bicycle NSW.

Bicycle NSW is also an umbrella organisation to BUGs and by that provides resources out of the reach of most BUGS.
